Top disability role for Jeremy

JEREMY Moore has been appointed as the new Director of Independent Living and the Office for Disability Issues.

He will take up his post in September, replacing Tim Cooper who is leaving for a new role as chief executive at Advance, a supported housing and employment charity.

Jeremy’s remit will now encompass all disability issues, including employment, benefits and the Office for Disability Issues, reflecting a more joined up approach across Government.

He said: “I am committed to championing the rights of disabled people at every level and working towards disability equality across government.

“Disabled people should not only be able to live more independent lives, but should have the same choices and opportunities as everyone else.”

Jeremy has been at the DWP since 2001. He has held various roles in the Department, most recently as director of the departmental transformation programme.

He is also responsible for teams dealing with disability and employment and with labour market disadvantage.

Maria Miller, Minister for Disabled People, said:

“Jeremy brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise and I look forward to working with him in engaging with disabled people and disability organisations to ensure they are fully involved in the decisions which affect their lives.

“Bringing all disability issues together under one Director reflects our commitment to a more joined up approach in ensuring disability issues are given the attention they deserve.

“I would like to thank Tim for the contribution he has made over the last two years and wish him well in his new career.”

The Office for Disability Issues is a cross-government organisation that works with government departments, disabled people and a wide range of external groups to make sure the needs of disabled people are fully represented.
