BRITAIN’S Liam O’Reilly won his first quad doubles title of the season on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour at the ITF 2 Series Open de L’ile de Re in France.
O’Reilly, 21, partnered Israel’s Boaz Kramer to a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory over French duo Stephane Erismann and Virgile Silva in a straight final in the event, while also finishing runner-up to Kramer in the quad singles.
O’Reilly lost his only singles match in a five-way round-robin competition to Kramer, while beating the French trio of David Alves Cerqueira, Erismann and Silva in straight sets to pick up valuable world ranking points.
Meanwhile, British No 3 Louise Hunt was unable to add another doubles triumph at the German Open after reaching the women’s doubles final partnering Germany’s Katharina Kruger.
Hampered by a heavy cold as she tackled the ITF 3 Series event in Essen, Hunt paired up with Kruger to beat Sweden’s Anna Alenas and Natalia Bakhmatova of Russia 6-2, 6-0 in the semi-finals.
However, Hunt and Kruger had to settle for runners-up honours after a 3-6, 2-6 loss to the Dutch pairing of world No 2 doubles player Aniek van Koot and Dorrie Timmermans in the final.
A below-par Hunt opened her women’s singles challenge well enough after a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Dutchwoman Willemien Smits and then took the first set of her quarter-final against Gemany’s Bianca Osterer before fading and Osterer edged through 2-6, 6-2, 6-7(4)
