Susan Black, Liverpool FC Communications Director, presents All Together NOW! founder and editor Tom Dowling, seated, and other finalists with their awards
All Together NOW! gained another top accolade last night at a glittering O2 North West Media Awards ceremony, held at Chester Racecourse
Judges congratulated the free charity newspaper on its 11th anniversary and “for continuing to provide an essential communications platform for those with disabilities.
“The fact that half of Britain’s 11 million disabled people are not connected to the internet shows just how valuable this bright, well designed newspaper is to its readership.
“The panel endorsed the comments made (by Sir Bert Massie) about the publication which said:
“This is much more than a newspaper – it is the key that opens a thousand doors.”
All Together NOW! editor Tom Dowling said: “This is another fantastic boost for our small team – and a fitting tribute to our loyal partners who firmly believe in our work.
“In these days when hundreds of newspapers are closing all across the UK, it’s almost unbelievable that we are still around.
“Trying to keep a free charity newspaper going is incredibly tough – but the combined effort to stay afloat is so vital.
“All Together NOW! is the only paper of its kind in the UK that’s helping huge numbers of people affected by ill health and disability. We have half a million readers, but we could easily double that very quickly – if we had the resources.
“What we have been able to achieve over these past 11 years has only been possible to the tremendous and ongoping support we get from people at The Morgan Foundation, United Utilities, Park Group, Liverpool Community Health Trust, and both Merseyside and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services.
“But we now urgently need to attract more support. If we can do that, there is no telling how many more people will benefit from the paper.”
All Together NOW! was Highly Commended in the Specialist Publication of the Year category, won by the Liverpool Echo’s Hillsborough supplement.
