WHEELCHAIR tennis star Alex Jewitt gained his second NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour final within a week in Antalya, Turkey.
By beating Iran’s Hossein Mamipour to win the Antalya Open, Jewitt looks set to claim the British No 4 spot when the new world rankings are published early next week by the International Tennis Federation.
Jewitt beat Mamipour 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to justify his top seeding and gain his latest triumph, having defeated the Iranian second seed 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 to win the Turkish Open at the same venue.
However, in another rematch form the Turkish Open Jewitt had to be content with runners-up honours in the men’s doubles.
The Briton and his Greek partner Giorgios Lazaridis took Iranian second seeds Mamipour and Muhammed Yaghoubi to a deciding champions tie-break for the second time in Antalya, but Mamipour and Yaghoubi once again had the edge to prevail 7-5, 4-6, (10-8).
