SEAN Rose will be the flagbearer for the ParalympicsGB team at the Closing Ceremony of the Xth Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver tonight.

Sit-skier Rose was the only British skier to qualify in all five alpine skiing disciplines, and having finished third in the overall 2010 World Cup rankings for Downhill, he was also tipped as Britain ’s best medal hope in skiing in the build up to the Games.

Unfortunately Rose suffered several setbacks, including equipment failure in the Super G and having to compete much further down the field in deteriorating conditions after being yellow flagged in the GS, which have affected his performances in Canada.

Rose will carry the Union Jack flag in the Closing Ceremony, which marks the end of the last 10 days of competition.

The Closing Ceremony will have a theme of “With Glowing Hearts”, and will feature tributes to the Paralympic athletes who have competed at the Games.
The ceremony will include a portrayal of the story of the creation of life by a Lil’wat Nation hoop dancer, a traditional Artic song sung by an Inuit throat singer and a performance by Canadian singer Chantal Kreviazuk.

There will also be a rendition of O Canada and 125 skiers of all ages and abilities will ski a torch parade down the slopes of Whistler to honour Canada as the Paralympic host country.

Also during the ceremony the Paralympic Flag will be lowered and passed on to Sochi 2014. The future host city will provide a cultural performance marking the transition to the next Paralympic Winter Games.

The ceremony will take place at Whistler’s Medal Plaza at 19:00 local time, which is 02:00 on Monday March 22 GMT.

The Xth Paralympic Winter Games saw over 500 Paralympic athletes from 44 countries compete over the past 10 days.
