Reid and McCarrol set for today’s Queensland semis

WHEELCHAIR tennis players Gordon Reid and Marc McCarroll compete in today’s singles and doubles semi-finals at the Queensland Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Brisbane.

British No 1 and third seed Reid eased past Australia’s Andrew Browning, 6-1, 6-1, in the last eight and the Helensburgh 18-year-old plays New Zealand’s Travis Moffatt.

Fourth seed McCarroll beat New Zealand’s Eamon Woods, 6-2, 6-2, in his quarter-final.

The Ickenham-based British No 3 faces a tough semi-final against former world No 6 David Johnson of Australia, a stalwart of the sport in Queensland and the player after which the tournament’s perpetual trophy for the men’s singles is named.

Top seeds for the men’s doubles, Reid and McCarroll made a fine start to their challenge, beating Australia’s Daniel O’Neil and and Germany’s Pedro Kruemmel 6-0, 6-0.

The British pairing now face Johnson and American Lee Hinson, with world No 17 Reid having beaten Hinson in his opening singles match on Thursday.
