Jane Asher to open autism conference

Jane Asher mainACTRESS Jane Asher is to open a conference at Edge Hill University later this month, which will address the needs of those with autism.

The eighth annual ‘Communication: The Key to Success’ International Conference will be opened by Jane in her role as President of the National Autistic Society.

Jane will outline the work of the NAS before introducing a range of keynote speakers including:

John Williams, a single father and full-time carer for his 12-year-old son, who has autism and cerebral palsy.

Documentary-maker and journalist Saskia Baron who is behind the TV show ‘The Autism Puzzle’ and is the younger sibling of Timothy, an autistic man with learning difficulties.

Ros Blackburn, an autistic adult who lectures nationally and internationally.

Dr Peter Vermeulen, a lecturer and consultant at Belgium’s Autisme Centraal.

Dr Jeremy Brown, Reader of Health Research at Edge Hill University, said: “The conference offers the audience latest research as well as personal perspectives from those with or caring for a person with autism.”

The conference takes place on Friday June 20, 8.30am-5pm.
