THE Bank Workers Charity are pleased to support our partner Turn2us’ latest campaign Cut out the Cold.
Running until 14 February, the campaign highlights the problems experienced by low income families and what support is available to help them heat their homes.
Turn2us has released new research showing that three quarters of families struggle to heat their homes so that no one feels cold.
Consequences are severe, with 75% of families saying it is negatively impacting the health of their children and over half (53%) saying their children’s school work has suffered due to cold homes.
Despite this, over half of the families interviewed by Turn2us do not think there is enough support, and families are not aware of the help that exists.
For example, seven out of ten families have never heard of the Warm Home Discount, almost half (45%) had not checked their eligibility for benefits, and 86% had not checked what free charitable grants may exist.
This is not an uncommon challenge for the Bank Workers Charity’s clients, who often experience financial difficulty when it comes to keeping their families warm in the face of expensive energy bills, yet are unaware of the types of help and assistance available.
