Can we help YOUR disabled child?

helenaMAINTEENAGER Helena Archer is enjoying more family fun with her parents and younger brother Jack, thanks to a new hi-tech powered wheelchair provided through a unique partnership between Newlife Foundation and The Morgan Foundation.

Now Helena, 16, can move around independently and doesn’t have to rely on others to push her around.

Helena, who lives in Bromborough, Wirral, said: “It’s fun to chase mum down the road and I am looking forward to going across the beach in Anglesey to get chips from the cafŽ there.”

Mum Anne said: “Depending on the environment, it could be very difficult for whoever was pushing Helena. For instance, we went to a National Trust property – and it was a complete and utter nightmare!

“We started off on a path, but after a while it disappeared in woodland. We ended up dragging Helena’s wheelchair, trying to get back to the gates before they closed up for the day.

“We hadn’t dared try anything like that since, but getting the new all-terrain powered wheelchair means we will be able to be more adventurous again.

“We’re a very outdoorsy family really, and we like to do things together. If Helena can’t go somewhere because of the limitations of her wheelchair then it means Jack, who is ten, misses out too.”

Anne added: “The new wheelchair will mean greater independence for Helena and boost her confidence in so many ways.”

THANKS to a generous £465,000 donation, raised from The Morgan Foundation’s 2014 golf day, Newlife is helping to provide essential equipment to disabled children in the Morgan Foundation remit area of Merseyside, Cheshire, North Staffs, Shropshire and North Wales.
