All Together NOW! editor Tom Dowling got the chance to go back to the Matterhorn. Forty years on and it still sends shivers up and down his spine.
As a teenager he spent three fantastic summer holidays in the Alps, striding the ridges that divide France, Switzerland and Italy.
Now here he was, in his mid-fifties, almost bursting blood vessels as he heaved his rickety wheelchair along some of the mountain trails that had once been so easy to negotiate.
Luckily for him, though, when it comes to getting people mobile high in the hills, the Swiss have got it right. Trains, cable cars and ski lifts helped Tom reach the places that he thought were completely resigned to the memory bank.
